ICACOS ISLAND SNORKELING SPOTS
Icacos Island has many great places to snorkel that can be accessed from the beach. Take a water taxi and find them all! There are many species of tropical fish that call these waters home including blue tang, snapper, parrot fish, puffer fish, manatee, dolphin, and sting rays. As with any ocean swimming, be very cautious of the currents. Most days, the current around Icacos Island will travel east to west.
Icacos Island Snorkeling Spot #1
This is the spot where most of the catamarans will stop and snorkel. The depth is about 20 feet maximum and there is great reef structure. If you're trying to come here by shore, be very aware of the ocean currents. You will see white mooring balls marking this site.
Icacos Island Snorkeling Spot #2This spot is perfect for beginner snorkelers and even people who are experienced swimming in the ocean. There is reef structure here along with leftover limestone rocks from the old quarry days. The current here goes north to south on most days and the depth is a max of about 10 feet. Parrot fish, lobster, snapper, blue tang, and sting rays are all common sights here.
Icacos Island Snorkeling Spot #3This spot on the south east part of Icacos Island is a frequent home to sea turtles and a bunch of other sea life. Blue tang, parrot fish and even manatee and dolphin can be seen here. When you enter this spot from the beach, beware of sea urchins below your feet. You don't want to mess with those! Maximum depth of about 10 feet.
Icacos Island Snorkeling Spot #4
This snorkeling spot has a nice little reef wall that is home to parrot fish, blue tang, snapper, sea turtles, sting rays, etc. About 15 feet is the max depth and the current, like most places around Icacos Island, is usually going east to west.
